A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces claimed her fourth MVP award on Sunday, September 21, 2025. For the second consecutive season, Wilson has been named Kia WNBA Most Valuable Player, marking her fourth MVP title in just eight years of professional play. The historic achievement solidifies her status as one of the greatest in league history, as she becomes the first player to win four MVP awards.
Wilson, a powerhouse on the court, has not only excelled offensively but has also showcased her defensive skills, earning her a third Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award. This dual recognition highlights her versatility and impact on both ends of the floor, further elevating her legacy in the league.
In her eighth season, Wilson averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game over 40 games—the second-best per-game averages of her career. She ranked No. 1 in points, No. 2 in rebounds, No. 1 in blocks, and No. 4 in steals per game, becoming the only player besides Yolanda Griffith (1999) to finish top five in all four categories in a single season.
Notably, Wilson set a WNBA single-season record by scoring 30 or more points in 13 games. She led the league with 25 games scoring 20 or more points and recorded an impressive 21 double-doubles—16 of which she scored at least 20 points. Her shooting accuracy improved, with a career-high 50.5% from the field, an impressive 42.4% on three-pointers (25-of-59), and an excellent 85.5% at the free throw line, leading the league with a record 284 free throws.
Wilson’s scoring prowess, defensive skills, and ability to carry her team in crucial moments is a testament to her work ethic. She’s always looking for a way to improve her game, and get an edge over her opponent.
Wilson’s ability to lead the Aces helped them improve from 11-11 to 19-3, finishing with a 30-14 record and earned them the No. 2 playoff seed. Las Vegas’s franchise-best 16-game winning streak closed out the regular season, second in league history. Wilson’s average during that dominant stretch was 26.1 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.
With this latest honor, Wilson breaks a three-way tie for the most MVP awards by a player, previously shared with WNBA legends Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson. This year, she received an impressive 51 out of 72 first-place votes, surpassing competitors Napheesa Collier of the Lynx and Alyssa Thomas of the Mercury. After receiving the awards surroounded by her family, teammates, and coaches, Wilson talked about what it meant to make history, and what a younger A’ja would think about all that she has accomplished over the last 8 years.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist is a role model and astute businesswoman off the court as well. Her numerous brand partnerships include deals with Nike and Lego. Her deal with Nike resulted in a signature shoe and a Lego figure, wearing clothes from her signature line with Nike.
Moreover, Wilson’s accolades stretch beyond the world of basketball and the WNBA. Earlier in her career, she won the Naismith College Player of the Year and the High School Player of the Year awards. Also, she won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. In Wilson’s ‘spare time,’ she penned the NY Times Bestseller ‘Dear Black Girls: How To Be True To You.’
